A teacher at the Palestinian School talks about adapting teaching resources, originally from the Lebanon, to fit the learning needs of 'non-native' Arabic speakers.
We use a book from Lebanon. They use it in Lebanon, not in the Mainstream schools or state schools; they use it in private schools. It’s not for non-native speakers, we have to modify it, and we have to choose from it something suitable for our students. It’s based on literature, so many stories in this book, that’s why we find it interesting. And we take the story, we read it, we analyse it, we do some activities around the story and we do some reading and writing, maybe role-plays as well. So I found that it’s hard for our students who live here because it has been decided for people whose first language is Arabic, but we try to modify it as much as we can.
