About our school

Newham Somali Homework Club is voluntary organisation based in Newham, helping Somali children with their school work and teaching them their culture and language. In November 2007 a project was called ‘Positively Motivated’ was set up, worked in partnership with Rokeby school to run this project, as the school offers the space and ICT resources for the sessions, which involves the Somali young people in the club producing a monthly newsletter covering topics of interest to them. The school also organise community activities, such as Eid parties or celebration events for our young people.

About our partnership

In partnership with Rokeby and Cumberland schools, Newham Somali Homework Club will run Somali language classes at Rokeby school on Saturdays. These classes will be open to students from these schools as well as to the wider community. This partnership benefits the organisation in terms of access to teaching resources for their students, information on initiatives such as Our Languages and recognition for the teachers who will have the opportuntiy to become accreditated Somali and Arabic ASSET language teachers.
