About our school

Opening its doors in 1910, Kesteven and Grantham Girls' School became the first school in Lincolnshire to be awarded Science Specialist Status in 2003. In 2007, it was recognised as a high performing Specialist school and awarded a second specialism in Languages. Famous locally as the school where Margaret Thatcher was once a pupil, today its unique blend of the traditional and the modern attracts girls from a wide area of Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire, who want to achieve the best from their time in secondary education. As well as excellent examination results, the school has a well-established tradition of service to the local and wider community.

About our partnership

Kesteven and Grantham Girls' School became involved in the Our Languages project through a previously established link with Madani High School and Community Centre in Leicester. Originally, Kesteven and Grantham Girls' School had offered Madani High School some teaching in French in exchange for Arabic taster sessions for its Year 7 groups. The school felt that this experience had been so rewarding, that joining the Our Languages Project was a natural step forward. As a result of the project, many of the older students have now developed a strong intellectual interest in the workings of the Arabic language, and some have also opted to study Mandarin on their free afternoon.

“We found the language easy to pick up, pronunciation not too daunting and building conversations was great fun.”
