About our school
The school was first established in 1966 and was registered as a charity in 1985. The aim of the school is to provide Chinese language classes and to promote Chinese culture for school age children out of normal hours. The school also provides recreational activities and participates in regional national competitions and membership is open to all those who attend the lessons and support school activities. There is an executive committee, consisting of 15 members elected at the Annual General Meeting to serve the term of 3 years. Meetings are help regularly with committee members, teachers and all those who are involved in the running of the school. Planning of the school curriculum, extracurricular activities, resources and management are discussed, audited and reviewed in these meetings. The schools vision is to provide a broader program to cater for and to involve more members of the community to improve what they have already achieved
About our partnership
The Leeds Chinese Community School has been partnered with mainstream school Brigshaw High since September 2008. At the original meeting it was agreed that the schools would jointly develop a Chinese Asset Languages Intermediate Level curriculum comprising of 10 lesson plans. This collaborative approach has enabled Brigshaw High to offer Chinese to pupils in addition to a preexisting Japanese language class. Similarly, Asset Languages training provided by Brigshaw High to teaching staff at Leeds Chinese Community School has enabled its pupils to gain nationally recognised qualification before they reach GCSE Level at 16.
