About our school

Grange School is an 11-16 mixed comprehensive school in the centre of Oldham with the vast majority of pupils coming from the Coldhurst and Westwood wards, two of the most deprived wards in England. The school was designated a Visual Arts College in 2002 and were named by the DfES as the 4th most improved school in the country for progress over the last 3 years (2002-2005) and the 6th best school in the country based on the Value Added measure from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4.

About our partnership

Grange School became involved in the Our Languages project with the joint aims of developing its capacity to deliver languages, and strengthening its links with the local community. In order to achieve these goals, Grange School has partnered with the supplementary school Compass Learning Centre. Pupils now enjoy the benefit of jointly prepared lesson plans, native language speakers and authentic material. Consequently pupils are beginning to excel in their GCSE language examinations. Pupils are also learning to appreciate other cultures and communities by engaging in the project.
