About our school

In 2002 Hove Park School became the first and only Language College to serve Brighton and Hove and the local community. Special features of the Language College include the extensive use of partnership - working with local primary and secondary schools, local businesses, parents, external agencies - as well as broadening the international dimension and developing global citizenship. Increased provision through their Extended School’s programme for community and other languages, such as Arabic, Japanese and Mandarin Chinese is featured in the curriculum across Key Stage 3 and 4 for students of all abilities. Hove Park also leads on the City Languages Strategy and the National KS2 Languages Strategy in Brighton & Hove.

About our partnership

Hove Park School has been in partnership with the Sudanese Coptic Arabic School in Brighton & Hove since 2002. In order to strengthen and drive the partnership forward, the school decided to join the Our Languages project along with another local secondary school, Cardinal Newman, who currently offers Arabic in the curriculum. This development has resulted in Arabic Workshops for Year 7, designed to embed linguistic and cultural understanding and to be delivered by one of the teachers at the supplementary school. Pupils can now gain accreditation through Asset Languages (Key Stage 3/4) for Arabic and other Community Languages including: Chinese, Farsi, Hindi, Japanese and Turkish.
