About our school
Broadway School is a culturally diverse inner city school in the Aston area of Birmingham, with 1200 students on roll. Broadway School is a Language College and as such teaches many languages through the curriculum with a strong focus on academic achievement and also the development of the whole child. The school sees international links and activities as a way of raising aspirations, developing cultural awareness and developing community and global harmony.
About our partnership
Broadway School is working with a Mosque to support their delivery of Urdu with students across different ages but similar stages of learning. The Mosque is currently using a thematic approach to learning which centers on the topic of Healthy Lifestyles and incorporates literacy, numeracy, aspects of food and PE in order to teach the various aspects of the language. As part of the project the Mosque is piloting the use of Vokis (talking avatars) to impact on oracy and team working skills. Broadway School is thoroughly enthusiastic about this project and feels that by accrediting the Urdu language at all stages of study, it will heighten the communities’ recognition of both the school and the Urdu education system.
