About our school
Aayatiin Foundation was established in 2005 to contribute to the attainment of Somali children and young people in the London Borough of Lambeth. The foundation provides study support, homework clubs (core curriculum), community language support and youth development initiatives for 5-16 year olds. Aayatiin began offering Somali language lessons at the request of parents who were worried that their children would lose their knowledge of Somali language and culture. Other activities include organising regular social and educational meetings, which bring together the Somali community, other BME communities, local residents, the local authority and others to discuss ways of improving community cohesion.
About our partnership
As part of the Our Languages project, the Aayatiin Foundation is working in partnership with Lambeth Academy. The schools are focusing on jointly developing schemes of work for community language teaching and are currently organising dissemination events in south London.
