Reaching out: the best in sustainable partnerships

3 March 2010

This one day conference, partly funded by DCSF, is open to senior leaders, heads of languages, languages subject leaders and languages practitioners, as well as those responsible for the community programme and community cohesion. Delegates will learn about current best practice, and will receive guidance and information on implementing the three strands of the community outreach programme: primary, secondary and wider community, including business engagement.

The focus for the day will be working in partnership, and delegates will be able to choose from a range of workshops focusing on reaching out to the community through languages, leading practice in developing partnerships with other schools, business and industry, community groups and international links.

Keynote speakers will include:

  • Dr Lid King - National Director for Languages, The Languages Company, supporting delivery of the National Languages Strategy for the DCSF
  • Professor Itesh Sachdev PhD (Psychology) - Professor of Language and Communication, Director, SOAS-UCL Centre of Excellence for ‘Languages of the Wider World’.

Delegates will also have an opportunity to see best practice and innovation in business engagement in languages from CILT’s Business Language Champions Award winners.
The conference is an opportunity to celebrate and learn about the successful, varied and innovative programmes led by teachers in all schools. Most workshops will be led by practitioners and those leading in community outreach.

The conference will be informative, relevant and motivational for all schools wishing to address community cohesion, ECM and the personalisation agenda.
