There are a number of things to think about before you begin your chosen Initial Teacher Training (ITT) route. In addition to a number of pre-requisite qualifications that you will need to possess, it is advisable to begin taking some steps to develop your skills and knowledge. This way you are more likely to be chosen as a trainee and, later on, recruited as a newly-qualified teacher (NQT). Subject Knowledge Enhancement courses are one way to increase your employability. Developing your own awareness of current language teaching methodology can also make a difference when ITT providers are faced with a large number of competing applications.
